Bedtime Story: The Siding Panel That Wouldn't Stay Put

Once upon an October... 🍂

There was a house whose siding panels were hanging on by a nail and a prayer. Then the first big fall wind came — and one panel made a break for it.

It's funny until it's your wall. Every October our inspections turn up the same suspects: loose siding panels flapping in the wind, cracked or missing caulk around windows and trim, and wasp nests that moved in over the summer. A loose panel is an open door for rain and cold air to slip behind your siding — and winter is coming.

Your 5-minute fall check, before the first hard freeze:

- Walk the full perimeter and press on each siding row — a healthy panel doesn't move.

- Look for cracked, shrunken, or missing caulk around windows, doors, and trim; fall is the best time to re-seal.

- Knock down any wasp or mud-dauber nests before you button the house up for winter.

- Check that no panels are buckling or pulling away at corners and the chimney.

Catching one loose panel in October is a five-minute fix. Finding it in January is a siding job. When in doubt, our free 8-point inspection covers the whole exterior — roof, siding, windows, gutters, and everything in between.

We do roofing, siding, windows, and gutters across the Kansas City area. Know someone who needs roofing, siding, windows, or gutters? $500 cash when they sign.
